Since day one, the world didn’t know what to think,  

The underachiever underestimated, little Squirrel swimmer, on the brink.  

Not great at many things, but that ADHD,  

It’s a gift, they’ll see, power inside me,  

Even when you should’ve gave up on me,  

I hurt you the most, but still, you believed,  

Looking up at the sky, knowing you’re watching me,  

Why am I to carry on your legacy?  



Improvise, adapt, overcome,  

Big D energy, here I come!  

Relax, focus, slow down,  

Detroit’s pride, wearing that crown.  

Underachiever? Nah, just on the way,  

Gonna be a hero, hear what I say!


Locked up, scared, didn’t know what to do,  

You said, "Get up early, put in work, it's true."  

Find a job, do something while you’re in there,  

You believed in me, through the weight of despair.  

Family shunned me, cast away like a fish,  

But you taught me how to swim, to rise and to wish.  

Even when I fell, you gave me that drive,  

Now I’m here, baby, I’m feeling alive!  



Improvise, adapt, overcome,

SquirrelLivesMatter, heroes in disguise,  

From a misfit kid to a warrior that flies.  

Making Detroit better, world watch me blaze,  

You had my back, in the darkest of days.  

You carried burdens, I didn’t even see,  

Now I’m fighting hard, just to honor thee.  



And every swim meet, every run, every fight,  

I failed you so many times, but I’ll get it right.  

Realizing now, it wasn’t just me,  

You gave so much to the world, don’t you see?  

I’m in the zone, ready to show them all,  

Under the microscope, I’m standing tall.  

So many times I said, “What does it mean?”  

But I’m redefining what success can mean.

Carrying your legacy, just wait and see!

With a heart full of love, I’m about to erupt!
